Frequently asked questions
Does my iPhone need anything extra to control the TV?
No extra hardware. Your iPhone and TV only need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Can I use it on a guest network or with a VPN?
Guest networks usually stop devices from seeing each other, and a VPN on the phone can hide the TV. Use your main home network and turn off the VPN while using the remote.
Does it work with older, non-smart TVs?
No. The TV must be a smart TV connected to your network. Non-smart TVs can only be controlled with infrared.
Do I need an IR blaster or extra device?
No. Relayo Remote talks to your Samsung TV directly over your home Wi-Fi network. iPhones don't have an infrared transmitter, so Wi-Fi is the way to go.
My Samsung TV doesn't show up. What can I do?
Check that the TV is on (not in standby) and that your iPhone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some mesh setups can block devices from seeing each other.
I pressed "Deny" by mistake. How do I fix it?
On the TV, go to Settings > General > External Device Manager > Device Connection Manager > Device List, remove Relayo Remote or set it to Allow, then connect again.
Does it work with LG Magic Remote features?
Relayo Remote covers the everyday buttons: arrows, OK, volume, channels, home, back, play/pause, settings and live TV, plus opening apps. Pointer and voice features of the Magic Remote are not included.
My LG TV is not found. What should I check?
Make sure the TV is fully on and on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone. If you use a guest network or a VPN on your phone, switch it off and try again.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No. Relayo Remote talks to your TV directly on your local network. No account, no sign-up and no personal data collected.
Is this the same as the Google TV app?
No. Relayo Remote is an independent app focused on being a simple, fast remote. It is not affiliated with Google.
The pairing code doesn't appear. What now?
Make sure the TV is on and on the same network, then try again. On some models you need to be on the home screen for the pairing message to show.
Does it work with Chromecast?
It works with Chromecast with Google TV. Older Chromecast dongles without a remote can't be controlled this way.
Is this the official Sony app?
No. Relayo Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with Sony.
The pairing code doesn't show up. What can I do?
Make sure the TV is fully on and on the home screen, then select it again in the app. If it still doesn't appear, restart the TV and try once more.
Can I open Netflix or YouTube from my phone?
Yes. Open the app list in Relayo Remote and tap any app installed on your Bravia to launch it.
My TCL TV isn't in the list. Why?
Check that the TV runs Google TV or Android TV and that it is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone. Guest networks and VPNs can block discovery.
Is this an official TCL app?
No. Relayo Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with TCL.
Do I need to pair every time?
No. You pair once with the code. After that the app connects automatically.
How do I know if my Hisense TV runs VIDAA?
VIDAA TVs have their own home screen with a VIDAA logo and no Google Play Store. Those models can't be controlled with Relayo Remote.
Is this the official Hisense app?
No. Relayo Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with Hisense.
The code doesn't appear on my TV.
Make sure the TV is fully on, then select it again in the app. Restarting the TV usually helps if it still doesn't show up.
Can I set up a new Chromecast without the remote?
Relayo Remote works once the Chromecast is set up and connected to your Wi-Fi. The first setup is done with the Google Home app.
Is this the Google TV app?
No. Relayo Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with Google.
Does it work with Apple TV or Fire TV?
No. Relayo Remote supports Google TV and Android TV, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS.
Can my iPhone control a TV without Wi-Fi?
iPhones don't have an infrared transmitter, so they control TVs over Wi-Fi. The TV must be a smart TV connected to your home network.
Can I turn the TV on from my phone?
Turning a TV on over Wi-Fi works only if the TV keeps its network active in standby. Many TVs have a setting for this, such as "Power On with Mobile" on Samsung or "Turn on via Wi-Fi" on LG.
Do I need an account?
No account and no sign-up. Relayo Remote talks to your TV directly on your local network.
Why does the app need local network access?
The app talks to your TV directly on your home network, and iOS asks for permission before an app can find devices there. Nothing leaves your network.
Which TVs are supported?
Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Google TV or Android TV models from Sony, TCL, Philips, Hisense and others, plus Chromecast with Google TV.
